The job

Founders pick brand names in a spreadsheet and regret it eighteen months later.

The Domain Rater scores names against the dimensions that matter when you scale — brandability, recall, fit to your wedge, and availability across the TLDs that read as legitimate.

You bring

  • A scored idea (or a candidate name you want to test)
  • A shortlist you can't decide between
  • A rebrand requirement after a positioning shift

Gaplyze creates

  • A per-dimension brandability score for every candidate name
  • A shortlist of alternative names mapped to your wedge
  • Availability sweep across .com, .ai, .io, and .co

Live preview

The per-dimension score plus a curated shortlist of alternatives.

The wheel gives you the read at a glance. The alternatives give you the shortlist — each one mapped to the same wedge as the original.

FAQ

Domain Rater, answered.

How is brandability actually measured?

The score combines pronounceability, length, syllable rhythm, distinctiveness in your category, and trademark friction signals. Each component is transparent — you see why a name scored 84 vs 62, not just the number.

Which TLDs does the rater cover?

The default sweep covers the most relevant TLDs for early-stage software brands — .com, .ai, .io, and .co. You can extend the sweep to category-specific TLDs (.app, .dev, .studio) when the brand calls for it.

How are alternative names generated?

Alternatives draw from your scored idea — the customer, the outcome, and the category language. The rater proposes adjacent names that map to the same wedge, not random brandable strings detached from your positioning.

Can I use the score to make a final branding decision?

The score is a strong input, not a verdict. Use it to filter candidates and surface options you would have missed; the final pick still involves taste, trademark check, and founder fit.

Where do I actually register the domain?

Domain registration happens at any registrar — Cloudflare, Namecheap, Porkbun, Google Domains. The rater scores availability and brandability; the purchase step is external by design so you keep full control.

Can I re-rate after a rebrand?

Yes. Re-rate the new shortlist whenever positioning shifts. Each rating is a snapshot — useful for documenting why you chose one name over another later.
